Dave’s entrepreneurial spirit always has been evident, beginning with businesses he created in his youth. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering, he embarked on a diverse corporate career in manufacturing until 15 years passed and he decided to pursue a calling related to his love of horticulture and the outdoors.
So he purchased a small garden center and landscape business, developing and expanding it every year with his wife, Linda, and their children. Years later, with a self-sustaining business and their children grown, Dave and Linda sold the business to chase another dream – owning and managing a vineyard.
In 2004, Dave and Linda found a 14-acre former cornfield in southeastern Massachusetts. The South Dartmouth land was the perfect location to create Coastal Vineyards and combine Dave’s love for agriculture, manufacturing and good wine. They prepared the soil diligently and spent the next two years planting 4,200 and 4,800 grapevines. In 2007, Dave began constructing the winery and harvested his first small crop of grapes, a significant milestone in Coastal Vineyards’ history.
A year later, Dave and Linda produced Coastal Vineyards’ first wines in small quantities from that inaugural crop and analyzed all facets of winemaking while fine-tuning the commercial process. Their commitment to excellence yielded a crop of seven tons of grapes in the autumn of 2008 for their historic first commercial production run. By the summer of 2009, Coastal Vineyards introduced its wine to the public and opened its outdoor tasting room with scenic views of vineyards by the sea.
The history of Coastal Vineyards continues to be written every day and across every season in the coastal town of South Dartmouth, Mass., and we want you to be part of it. We welcome new visitors and old friends to share in the bounty of good wine and good company.
